It can be hard to create and style a modern nursery for your baby especially with the advent of Social Media. There are so many choices, ideas and themes shown onInstagram and Pinterest. On the blog today, I am thrilled to showcase a modern, stylish nursery that has been designed so beautifully by one of our Brand Rep's, Tegan Porter.

I am so lucky to have some incredible Brand Representatives at Baby Donkie who over have supported my shop over the years. One of my cherished Brand Rep's, Tegan recently gave birth to a beautiful baby boy Flynn. I want to wish her the warmest congratulations to her and her family on his arrival. In preparation for Flynn's arrival, Tegan designed and styled an incredible modern nursery. She has supported many local Australian businesses to style her newborn's nursery and created an incredible space for Flynn.

Today on the blog, she has very kindly shared her favourite pieces, what was important to add to the nursery and her inspiration behind the nursery for Flynn.

Nursery Inspiration  

Your inspiration, perhaps you started with one or 2 products or themes or colour and based your nursery around that?

I knew I wanted the nursery to be light and bright and add some colour for interest as I had done in Flynn' sister Ivy's room. I received the beautiful Olive branch print from Lauren at The Whimsical Wall so used that as my inspiration for the blue tones and botanical feel in the room. Anyone that has been following my feed for awhile will know I'm a big lover of mustard so I couldn't not add some to the room too.

Nursery Must Have's 

I wanted the room to be practical and something that can easily be updated as Flynn grows. We have a day bed in the room that can be used when guests stay and it's also a comfy space to read books.

This is also a space that we will spend a lot of time playing in so I have toys and books low to the ground for the kids to access. I also have a bookshelf filled with lots of beautiful books from our favourite Melbourne bookshop, Pickwick & Sprout.

Your favourite Piece 

I think the Blond Noir Snowy River Wall Decals are a real feature piece and tie in well with so many other items in the room.

I also love the clothes rack. My Dad and sister made this when I was pregnant with my Daughter Ivy. She had it in her nursery and now Flynn has it in his. It's a piece that I'm always asked about when it features in my photos.

Life before becoming a Mum 

I'm a an Office Manager for a software company for my day job but am also qualified in event management.

Styling is my creative outlet!

Nursery Design Ideas 

When creating a nursery and choosing a theme or colourway for the room, it is important to think about the years ahead. Do you want to keep re-styling the room as they grow and develop into a toddler and then child? It can be expensive to have to change up the room regularly.  

Tegan has created a modern, whimsical and woodland themed nursery using functional yet stylish pieces of furniture and décor. They are perfect for newborns yet all the décor, prints and colours will work equally well for Flynn when is a toddler and a child.
